How to Identify Gopher vs Mole Damage
Pocket Gophers:
- Create volcano-shaped mounds and raised tunnels
- Eat vegetation, plants, tree roots, and flowers
- Extremely destructive to landscaping and sprinkler systems
- Breed up to three times per year (up to 3 per litter)
Moles:
- Create odd-shaped mounds and raised tunnels
- Feed on insects, grubs, acorns, and worms
- Will damage lawns and underground low-voltage wiring
- Breed once per year in early spring (up to 6 per litter)
Voles:
- Not present in the DFW area
- Young gophers can sometimes resemble voles
